Needle tatted flower

Description

I was unable to complete my tutorial in time for the get crafty contest (I will finish it eventually lol) but I decided that if I started early with the B part of the competition I may well be able to finish an entry in time for the deadline and I was right.

I decided to use *digikijo's needle tatting tutorials and attempted to make a flat flower shape - this failed completely due to me underestimating how many stitches I'd need to do for each round and not checking it was going right while I cheerfully forged ahead so I ended up with a cone shaped flower instead. Not one to get put off by life's challenges I decided to see if I could make a proper flower out of it instead. I added yellow dangly bits as stamens and then added a round of curves on the other side to make the cup that holds the petals, I then grabbed some florists wire and did the tatting straight onto one of them instead of using a needle to create a stem that could take the weight of the flower. I made leaf shapes from other bits of wire that also covered with tatting and held them against the stem while continuing to add tatting to fix them in place. Once that was complete I realised that the flower was too droopy and made a spiral of florists wire that I fixed to the o I had made to neaten the end of the stem inside the flower. The spiral is only inside the green part of the flower and as I joined that to the o with another o shape it moved when you move the stem of, if left outside, when the wind blows against it.

I decided to take the photo's in the garden as it's lovely outside today and it was easier to stick the stem into the ground and take photo's than to fiddle around with sand and glasses and stuff.

I used the following tutorials: They are both made by *digikijo
